Free School Meals

Does your child qualify for free school meals? Many children at our school are already eating free school meals, and your child may be able to have them too.

Your child may apply for free school meals if you are entitled to receive one of the following

• Income Support (IS)

• Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance (IBJSA)

• An Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA(IR))

• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

• Child Tax Credit (provided that you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual

income, assessed by HMRC, that does not exceed £16190)

• The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

Savings

If you pay for your childs school meals, you could make a saving of almost £400 per year if your child has a school lunch every day. Even if you don’t want to have a meal every day it will mean your child can enjoy special occasions such as Christmas and Easter as well as themed days, including Harvest and Seaside Specials.

Our school will receive extra funding

For every child registered for a free school meal, the school will receive money to spend on extra resources. It’s called “Pupil Premium” and we currently plan to use this funding on enabling children to work in small groups, extra resources, a school counsellor and sports coaching. From September we hope to introduce Kindles, involve parents in more activities and support breakfast/afterschool clubs.

How to apply

You can apply directly by email, telephone or post or if you prefer ask at the school office where we’ll be happy to help. The quickest and easiest way to check your eligibility is to ring school food support on 0116 305 6588 or 0116 305 7093 where your enquiry can be dealt with immediately.
