Design and Technology Statement of Intent

Design and Technology is a practical subject where children are inspired to become innovators and risk-takers. It encourages children to learn to think creatively and to problem solve both as individuals and as members of a team; skills for the future world of work. Using their creativity and imagination, children are encouraged to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of real-world contexts. They need to consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Instilling a love of cooking opens doors to one of the great expressions of human creativity; it is also an essential life skill. Children are taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. In building healthy eating relationships that will nurture their bodies and fuel brain development, we hope to form life-long positive eating habits that will last a lifetime.
