Reading Support

ECAR - Every Child a Reader

Our Reading Programme has got off to a brilliant start this year with three of our children from Legends involved. The children have all been working extremely hard on boosting their reading and writing skills during three half-hour, one to one sessions. I have been very impressed by their concentration, determination and also by their wonderful progress so far.

Our Year 6 Reading Buddies have also been supporting our Year 1 children with regular book sharing sessions. Many of these children completed their 4 week training course last year and this is their second experience of assisting younger children to develop their reading skills.

Children from Year 1 to Year 4 are also benefitting from additional reading support from local students through the Right to Read Programme.

Great progress in reading and writing has been made by some of our youngest children in school, who have reached their target levels… and are very proud of their achievements!

New children from Legends have begun their Individual Reading Programmes and are already increasing their confidence and moving up the levels while enjoying reading several books during each session.

Reading interventions across school.

Other reading interventions are going on around the school with Mrs Fairbrother in Key Stage 1 and Mrs Timson in Key Stage 2. I am pleased to say that they have made some very positive comments about the progress of the children they are working with.
