Welcome to Rainbows 2025-2026 Page.
We are the Reception class at Warren Hills Community Primary School.
Our class teachers are Mrs Coombes and Mrs Astle. Miss Smith and Mr Booton are the teaching assistants in our class.
We have a funfilled play-based curriculum which we enjoy throughout the year which includes many interesting topics and also follows our own interests.
We Love Reading
In our class, we know how important reading is to help us learn and we follow a reading scheme in our school called Read, Write, Inc. We each have a home reading folder to bring our books home in every day and a reading record book. We enjoy reading at home and know how important it is to practise with our parents/carers regularly to help us become successful readers.
A note from the teacher: Please ensure that your child brings their home reading folder back to school every day and remember to encourage them to spend some time reading either to an adult or independently each day.
Spring Term 2 Topic 4 2025-26
Spring Has Sprung!
In this exciting topics, Rainbows enjoy learning about the seasonal changes that Spring brings. We have learnt about all the new life we see at this time of year. This topic includes a fun filled trip to a farm where we learn all about where our food comes from. This topic also gives us plenty of opportunities to writ ethrough our story telling of 'The Little Red Hen' and Rosie's Walk'. In Expressive Arts, there are lots of opportunities to create spring time pictures through paint, printing, and collage.
Spring Term 1 Topic 3 2025-26
Twinkle Twinkle
Can you beleive it? A man called Neil Armstrong really landed on the moon. The Rainbows Children watch with excitement footage of the moon landing and have many interesting questions about what it is like to experience being in space. We learn all about jobs that people do at night and nocturnal animals. We had our own interests to learn about the planets in our Solar System and enjoyed learning about putting them in size order and making our own in the creative area. In Literacy we went on an adventure with Baby Bear who takes a trip to the moon in his very own cardboard box space ship! We recreate these, make kit lists of what we would take the moon and make a picnics for the journey. In Expressive Arts we have great fun night sky painting and star constellation patterns.
Autumn Term 2 Topic 2 2025-26
Let me tell you a story...
In this royally exciting understanding of the world topic, we go back in time to find out all about Kings and Queens a long time ago. What did they wear? What did they look like? How did they behave. We had great fun dressing up and looking at pictures from long long ago. We get our expressive designing and making hats on to design and make our very own crown - fit for a King of Queen! We enjoy many traditional stories starring Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses.
Autumn Term 1 Topic 2 2025-26
Falling Leaves
What is happening outside? The leaves are changing colour, they are crunching under our feet. We love to throw the red, yellow, golden leaves above our heads and explore their colours. Autunmal walks to explore seasonal changes is a big part of this topic. We explore and enjoy acorns, conkers, seeds and leaves in our play and learn all about Harvest and where our food comes from. In Expressive Arts, we make conker creatures and enjoy exploring with mixing colours to print leaves. In Literacy, we go on a bear hunt where we get first hand experience on what it would be like to go on a real bear hunt!
