Remembrance Day

The whole school commemorated Remembrance Day with a special assembly where the children were able to pay their respects.

Tesco visit

Our Year 1 & 2 classes were lucky enough to be welcomed by the staff at Tesco's Farm to Fork project. Whilst there, they spent time doing a fruit and vegetable 'rainbow run' and went behind the scenes in the bakery. Although the children were a bit chilly in the gigantic fridge, they got to nibble on lots of delicious colourful fruit! As you'll see, some pupils got to hold some fish from the counter! Thanks to Tesco at Ashby for this great experience.

Warren Hills Got Talent!

Following the success of last years launch of "Warren Hills Got Talent" there were again some fantastic acts performed by children from all classes (not forgetting Mr Lloyds final ever performance!) Please see a selection of pictures below and congratulations to everyone who took part (including our brave judges!)

Sports Day

Wednesday 24th June saw the sun shine on our annual sports day. There were great performances by both pupils, parents and staff before everyone celebrated their achievements with a picnic lunch in the sunshine!

Watching the eclipse

All our classes were able to watch the eclipse on Friday 20th March. They used everything from telescopes to paper plates with holes in to safely see this rare event and experience the changing sky, temperature and sounds.

4+ on Santas's steam train

Santa swapped his sleigh for a fun filled journey on an enchanting steam train with our reception class as they went back in time to experience a vintage Christmas. They had a fantastic ride on board Great Central Railways award winning Santa Special and were surprised by Father Christmas, receiving a present and getting to have a chat with the man himself!

 WW1 Commemoration

We started this half term on October 27th 2014 with an enrichment week all about World War 1 and why we wear our poppies with pride. The children were visited by a theatre company who performed ‘Your country needs you’. Staff and pupils from Castle Rock supported the week with French, art, drama, baking and even a chance to work on the radio station. The week was rounded off with a vintage tea party—thank you to all of you who supported this. We raised £45 at this event and this was donated to the Royal British Legion. The costumes the children and staff wore were fantastic. Each class made a wreath and we were honoured to take 5 children down to the Coalville Clock tower on the 11th November 2014 to lay them there. The children were chosen for an outstanding contribution that week so well done Connie Lou Winterton, Kyle Blakey, Liam Young, Alice Smith and Gregory Cooper. Remembrance day was rounded off with the whole school walking down to St David’s Church where Rev’d Andrew Rhoades led our children in a wonderful service of remembrance. Children were involved from each class and their contribution was outstanding.

 Harvest Festival

Our annual Harvest Festival was once again a great success with our Year 6 pupils able to distribute your kind donations throughout the local community. We had a special celebration assembly to mark the occasion.

Warren Hills Got Talent

Wednesday 25th June saw the inaugural Warren Hills Got talent event. There were some fantastic acts performed by children from all classes. The overall winner, chosen by our audience controlled noiseometer was Indiya Smith-Farr with an amazing magic act. Indiya was also the KS2 winner while Honey, Aadi, Emma & Reahana were KS1 winners. Big congratulations to everyone who took part, we hope this will become a regular event!

We crowned our new May King & Queen at a special assembly along with their attendants. Congratulations to you all.

Explorers  Visit to London

On the 31st March 2014 Explorers class visited London they had lunch (and an ice cream!) in Trafalgar Square before starting a time travel journey around the city. We were taken on a voyage around London’s famous sights aboard a classic 1960s Routemaster bus, led by Professor Quantum who shared his fantastic knowledge of the past, present and future. All the children behaved really well and it was a great day out, seeing all the sights and bringing our landmarks topic to life...see how many of the landmarks you can recognise!

Key Stage One Visit to The Thinktank Museum

On the 13th March 2014 Legends and Gemstones classes visited the Thinktank Museum  in Birmingham. We were shown the stars, planets and moon in the planetarium show before exploring the museum.  The children were shown round the exhibits and explained everything they had learned in Design Technology and Science classes about levers and cranks, floating and sinking, forces, materials and recycling.  After lunch, we had a great time playing in the Science Garden, testing how things move, change direction and stop.  The children looked very smart and were really well behaved.

Chocolate Easter Bingo

A huge Thank You to all the parents and children who supported our end of term "Chocolate Easter Bingo." As you'll see there were some great prizes and we raised over £500 on the night. We've recently spent last years fundraising on a fantastic new stage for the children's productions and would welcome any ideas you have for projects this year.

Beaumanor Residential

Our year 5 and 6 pupils are enjoying a weeks residential at Beaumanor Hall. Here are some pictures of them settling in (more to follow!)

May Day, fun day.

On a fabulous and sunny Wednesday 1st May 2013 the children of Warren Hills Community Primary School celebrated in style. The school was alive with Maypole dancing, staff Morris Dancing, May Day Royalty with our elected King and Queen and a family of scarecrows appeared as if by magic! Each class created a scarecrow linked to the theme of their class topic and entered it into our scarecrow competition. Our younger children in Reception (the Rainbow Class) won with Willimeena Wonka as the topic they were studying was chocolate. Here are a few of our scarecrows, we have SATSmantha from Investigators as the Year 6 were getting ready for their tests, Robin Hood and Maid Marion from Gemstones and Wizards studying legends, Discoverer’s Click the coal miner and  Nursery’s Fluttery Butterfly.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee was a great day of celebration at Warren Hills. Browse our photos to see what a fabulous day we had full of dressing up, hat competitions and a huge street party. Every pupil received a jubilee bear to take home as a souvenir of the day. At the end of the school day we opened our doors and had a huge celebration sale with raffles, hampers, cakes, sweets, tombolas and much much more.
