National Child Measurement Programme – Support for parents and carers

For some parents, receiving the results letter from the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) can come as a bit of a shock. After all, nationally around a third of children are overweight by the time they leave primary school, which means its harder for parents to identify when children fall into this category as they may not look that different to their peers.

We have created a short film aimed at parents in which a local GP, a public health nurse (school nurse) and dietitian explain more about the NCMP and the support available for families. The film is available within the parents’ section of the Health for Kids website (www.healthforkids.co.uk) alongside frequently asked questions relating to the NCMP and advice about encouraging physical activity.

Parents can call the 0300 3000 007 advice line to talk to a public health nurse or can text 07520 615382. The service is available between 9am and 5pm Monday – Friday (excluding bank holidays).

Best wishes
